A medieval village clinging to the Maures massif, on the opposite shore of the gulf from Saint-Tropez, with a ruined castle and windmill overlooking the whole bay.

While all eyes turn to the peninsula and its perched villages (Gassin, Ramatuelle), Grimaud occupies the other side of the gulf, backed against the Maures massif — and remains largely overlooked by visitors who head straight for Saint-Tropez or Port Grimaud below. Cobbled lanes, vaulted passages, pastel shutters and bougainvillea lead within minutes from the 11th-century castle ruins to the Moulin Saint-Roch, a free panorama over the whole gulf.

Access

Park in the lots on the edge of the village (pedestrian streets inside) — not to be confused with Port Grimaud, on the coast, 15 minutes away on foot or by car.

Fun fact

The 16th-century Moulin Saint-Roch was originally called "moulin de la Gardiole" before taking the name of the nearby chapel — its view stretches to the château and the whole Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
