Peïra-Cava
A former winter sports resort at 1,500m, above Lucéram — the first ever in the Alpes-Maritimes, now returned to being a quiet balcony over the Mercantour and the Mediterranean that few still associate with a village in the Paillon valley.
Founded in the early 20th century on the initiative of Victor de Cessole, Peïra-Cava was the very first winter sports resort in the Alpes-Maritimes and remains the oldest cross-country ski site in the department. The ski lift disappeared in the 1990s, but the lookout village, set on a ridge between the Vésubie, Bévéra and Paillon valleys, keeps its 360° views: on a clear day you can see the Mercantour on one side and the sea, even Corsica, on the other.
