The Trophy of Augustus
A colossal Roman monument erected in 6 BC to celebrate the subjugation of the Alpine tribes, perched more than 480 metres above the Principality of Monaco.
From its partially restored remains, the view drops straight down onto Monaco and the Rock, with Italy visible on a clear day. The village of La Turbie around it, crossed by the Roman Via Julia Augusta, adds to the feeling of passing through several eras at once.
